The Origo Steering Wheel was developed with the Finnish automotive ecosystem MIVI as a Technology demonstrator to showcase various technological opportunities. The aim was to create a design which was intuitive and easy to use, the sort that you find on personal mobility devices, while also creating an aesthetic that would be inviting to the user.

Design
Northern Works was in charge of the design. The concept was created in collaboration with the project partners Tactotek, Canatu and Siili Automotove. The project was done in close collaboration with Studio Jukka Rautiainen and Cam Company who produced the model. Jukka Rautiainen created all and ID CAD files and CC did the mechanical design.
The team won a Gold Medal at the German Design Awards 2021 for outstanding design quality.
Development
With the Origo steering wheel, the driver can manage all key functions with their thumbs without letting go off the steering wheel, minimizing distractions and improving safety.
Final Design
The final design perfectly syncs the physical controls with the digital UI creating an intuitive and exciting user experience, unlike anything we’ve seen on cars before.
Only relevant information is displayed, avoiding over stimulation. With clean form factor, innovative 3D touch controls and intuitive UI, Origo provides a holistic HMI for tomorrow’s cars.
